Happy Thanksgiving
&
Wishing all a bountiful season.

When I was looking for a suitable picture,
I almost used my favorite
one from Norman Rockwell.
His portrayal of
"Freedom From Want".
This was inspired by FDR's State of The Union
address delivered in 1941.
It is one of the 4 Freedoms.
It was painted in 1942 and was
published in The Saturday Evening Post.

Rockwell, being one of my favorite
artists, painted another Thanksgiving
picture. This one is of a Mother enjoying
her son who is home on leave from the front.
The irony here is that he's peeling potatoes
with his Mom just like he does in the Army.
Beautifully done hyper-realistic work.
Rockwell was a perfectionist
who told the whole story in his works.
I don't know if you're aware, but he created
one of America's most beloved icons.
Rosie the Riveter.
She graced the cover of a 1943
Saturday Evening Post.
She embodied the "can do" spirit
of the women during the war.
He added the touch of her smugly wiping
her feet on a copy of "Mein Kampf".
Rockwell found his inspiration in
Michelangelo's "Isaiah" on
the Sistine Chapel.
Rosie also evokes images
of a modern (1940's) Madonna,
with her blue jumpsuit and stars behind her head.
Another complete story in a
picture of magazine cover art.
But...
I digress.
I had to share a bit of my admiration
for Rockwell's art.
Hope you liked it.

Seedlings planted.
These are broccoli and cauliflower.

Onions.

Purple Bell Peppers

Cherry Tomatoes

Scotch Bonnet Peppers
(HOT!)
A ripe Scotch Bonnet.
I pickle them, I don't eat them!

Lettuce patch.

More lettuce.

Ripe Peppers and tomatoes.
The yellow Cherry Tomatoes
have a milder taste.

Remains of a couple pumpkins
in the compost heap.

Hazel.

Lucy.

Nugget, following everywhere.

Our adopted cat.
I feed her/him?
Her owner passed away so
I make sure he/she
eats.
No, I can't pick her up to check the sex.
I'm allergic to cats.
Plus, she/he isn't receptive to
anything other than rubbing
against us or head scratches.
I've asked what pronouns should I use,
but I get no response
only a quiet "Meow",
so now her/his
name is
"Minew".

Our festive front door.

I haven't heard quiet during the day since
shortly after Ida blew through.
It's sawing or hammering all the time.
Repairs to roofs or fences.
Hope everyone can bounce back
and have a normal-ish
Thanksgiving.

Just realized that
the bell peppers
spell...
Dill!
Ha!
