March 31st

Yay!
It's Tater Day!
My celebration plans are to
bake a couple for dinner.
Who doesn't like a baked potato?
There's so much you can do with potatoes.
Fry them, bake them, mash them, put them
into salads, stuff them, roast them....
Before I sound like Bubba Gump,
you get the idea.
And,
there's more than 200 varieties
grown in the US,
with russet being the most popular.
So,
tonight, celebrate accordingly!

**************************************

We recently bought a bag of
avocados from Costco.
The whole family loves avocados,
so getting a bag of 6 isn't too much.
But,
you have to wait a week for
them to ripen
and then you have to consume them
in a 12 hour window!
Why is that the case?
The time for tasty perfection
to yucky brown slime
is very small.
This got me to thinking....
1) Who first ate one? Was there a debate
about the color or the "alligator like"
skin, or the texture??
2) This is kind of a design flaw
with the ginormous seed.
God should have gone back to the
drawing board here.
The mango is another example.
Surely, if we can put men on the moon,
we can invent a seedless or smaller seeded
avocado and a mango!
Just sayin'.....

My Amaryllis

Sunflowers

One of the bigger sunflowers.
The petals have died off so
we leave it on the stalk so the birds
can eat the seeds.

Another large head with seeds
eaten off.

Stargazer lilies

Paperwhite lilies and gladiolas

Gardenia bulbs

********************************

The Blueberry bushes are starting
to flower.

My English Lavender.
I thought it had died,
but it looks like it is rallying.

Potatoes

Tomato

Flowers on several of our tomato bushes.

Herb garden Angel

Basil, French Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme
Stevia and Mint.

Onions

And the girls...

Hazel

Nugget

Lucy

Ethel

Minew

Yesterday the CEO brought the
chicken girls a treat,
crickets!!

They loved them!

Minew, however, left the area.
No crickets for her.

So,
I couldn't find my keys.
I looked for over an hour.
I retraced all my steps and still nothing.
I prayed to my Mom's buddy,
St Anthony,
as well as any Pagan gods
of lost implements.
Figured I'd cover all my bases.
Then,
I put my hand into the pocket of my pants...
Yep!
There they were.
Now,
I don't know if it was
Divine intervention or,
I've conjured a demon,
but I've got the keys!!

Love y'all!
Thanks for reading.
You make me happy!

March 13th

I hate time change!
Today is going to feel like it'll never end.
Did you know....
Ben Franklin proposed DST in 1784.
It became law in 1918 then was repealed
in 1919 during WWI because not
all states were on board.
Some states continued to observe
DST on and off but it didn't
become widespread till 1974 during
the energy crisis, but wasn't
mandated by law.
Hawaii and some of Arizona do not participate.
The time changes at 2am instead of midnight,
to avoid changing the actual date.
Here's a bit of grammar.
It's daylight saving time
not
daylight savings time,
and
you only capitalize the initials,
not the words.
And,
according to a Stanford sleep study,
our bodies don't naturally adapt
with the abrupt change of
time vs approaching dawn
better known as our circadian rhythm

It usually takes me a couple of weeks
 to acclimate to what
the clock says and how my internal
clock feels,
so let the madness begin!

**********************

Spring is its' usual bipolar self.
One day the temperature is in the '80's,
and the next we're having a freeze.
It is currently 53 degrees,
and I think it is Goldilocks weather.
Just right!

Our sunflowers are still blooming.
This one is welcoming a butterfly and a bee.

This one is growing another flower
from the flower stalk.
It's seeds are almost ready to harvest.

Vidalia onion flower,

Beets

Bibb Lettuce

Herbs
Basil, Stevia, Mint and Lavender.

Amaryllis buds.

The garage grow light
with a bunch of veggie "babies"
waiting to be planted.

I found these 2 yellow cherry tomato holdouts.
They tasted great!

As usual,
my entourage was in attendance.
Minew,
weaving in between my legs,
almost causing me to trip.
Goofy cat!

Lucy and Nugget
pecking around in the compost heap.

Hazel, just being her curious self.
She's making a little cooing noise
as she follows me.

Ethel,
giving me the stink eye
so I'll leave her alone to lay her egg.

****************************
I recently thought about this.....

The premise of the movie
Mad Max
was of a future
experiencing societal collapse
due to war while also dealing
with critical resource shortages
and acceptance of murder and vengeance.
Sounds like a typical dystopian sci-fi movie,
but,
don't ya think that
this scenario is a bit too close
for comfort in these trying times??

God Bless Ukraine
and we pray He keeps us
from the all too real
potential of a real-life
Mad Max.

********************

And,
speaking of God,
He couldn't have painted a more
magnificent scene than this,
 a beautiful Pacific ocean sunset
on Mission Beach California.
Thanks for the memories
Jeff and Irene!
